Annotations for Drill Sergeant

Lyric: I can’t hear you!
Annotation:
The “I can’t hear you!” trope is a classic psychological tool used to break down the ego. By making the “soldier” scream, the Sergeant is forcing him to physically exert himself in service of total submission.

Lyric: If you do not do what you’re told to do when you’re told to do it, you will be punished. Do you understand?
Annotation:
First step to turn the protagonist into a human drone: punishing her when she doesn’t listen to him. This will lead to the point that she won’t resist anymore and just accepts it to not suffer anymore and so  does what she’s told to do, when she’s told to do it. It’s worth noting that the dialogue involves a male character, even though  Drones‘ protagonist is a female, in order to be more faithful to the original one in  Full Metal Jacket.

Lyric: Your ass belongs to me now!
Annotation:
Being turned into a human drone, she’s gonna be fully subjected the drill sergeant, who will be able to control her anytime and anywhere. This sentence anticipate the following track  “Psycho” and its chorus.
